Adults and larger children are provided with sit harnesses, while smaller children are provided with full chest harnesses.

At most events, we use crash mats at the base of the wall. Strangely, the crash mats are more effective as moisture and dirt barriers and their use has a significant impact on the use of the wall in wet weather. The crash mats cover small irregularities in the ground that could cause eager climbers to trip. During climbing training and personnel training activities, we encourage pairs of climbers to “spot” for each other and traverse around the wall at a low height. The mats are very effective against “bangs” and “knocks.”

Depending on the activity being undertaken, either screwlok or twistlok krabs are used. At all public events, dual action twistlok krabs are used because they are virtually impossible to the user to undo.

For crowd management, we supply “friendly” self-tensioning barriers that are usually sufficient to demarcate the operating area.
